Fillings

A dental filling is needed when a tooth has been damaged by decay. A tooth that has cavities can cause sensitivity and a dental filling material will help prevent this by closing off access to bacteria and preventing further damage. However, if a cavity has become too large, a dental crown may be recommended instead.

During your appointment, the dentist will first clean the tooth and remove all traces of decay. Then the filling material will be placed in the cavity and allowed to harden. Afterwards, the dentist will polish the filling.

To prevent tooth decay, we highly encourage you to do the following:

  1. Brush your teeth using a dentist recommended fluoride toothpaste.
  2. Floss once a day.
  3. Get dental cleanings at least every 6 months.
  4. Avoid sugary foods and drinks.
  5. Visit your dentist regularly.
