Porcelain Veneers
If you want to have a beautiful smile, porcelain veneers may just be the solution you’re looking for. A veneer is an ultra thin shell that is bonded to a tooth to improve its color, size and shape. It can make the tooth appear whiter, remove gaps in between teeth, and fix any discoloration or chip.
The most commonly used material for veneers is porcelain. What makes it the popular choice is that it can imitate the color and feel of your teeth. It can last 10-20 years as well, if you take good care of your veneer.
Placing Veneers
The entire treatment process takes 2 appointments. During the first appointment, your dentist will clean the tooth and determine the right color for your veneer. You may be given local anesthesia if you have tooth sensitivity although in most cases, it’s not required. The dentist will remove a very minimal amount of enamel so as to give enough room for your veneer.
Then, she will take an impression of the tooth which will then be sent to a laboratory where the veneer is fabricated. In the meantime, you’ll wear a temporary veneer.
Once your veneer is ready, the dentist will cement it over your tooth and then a special light is applied for about a minute so that it will completely bond to the tooth structure. It will then be polished and checked to ensure the perfect fit.
